Varicose & Spider Veins

Varicose veins are quite common, in fact, over 30 million people are left undiagnosed. Varicose veins are enlarged veins that appear twisted and bulging typically in the back of the legs below or behind the knee. These areas are often raised above the skin and can be painful. The cause of varicose veins are the valves that prevent backflow in your veins have become weak or damaged, creating the pooling of blood that is visible on the skin. If left untreated, varicose veins can be painful, lead to leg swelling, venous eczema, skin thickening, and ulceration.

Spider veins are a milder version of varicose veins, and while they may not be painful, they are often frustrating to get rid of. Just like varicose veins, they are caused by a back up of blood in the smaller veins just below the skin surface. The Vascular Center offers a spider vein treatment clinic on Saturdays to provide more convenient times for our patients.
