Spider Veins

WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?

Spider veins are a common, milder variation of varicose veins. They look smaller, often red or blue, appear on the surface of the skin, and resemble spider webs or tree branches. They are also caused by the backup of blood.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENTS?

At the Vascular Center, we offer the very best methods and the latest technology to treat vein problems. We help patients determine which treatment option is most appropriate for their specific medical needs. Our option for treatment is Sclerotherapy.

WHAT IS SCLEROTHERAPY?

Sclerotherapy is the injection of a solution into offending veins, such as “spider veins” and even some small varicose veins. This procedure is performed in the office, is relatively painless, and may be repeated as necessary to remove the appearance of unsightly varicosities. The injection is limited to veins less than 3 mm in diameter and is generally not as successful in larger veins. Complications are rare and a careful approach to sclerotherapy has resulted in complications of much less than 1%. Dr. Glenn Esses has been treating spider veins for over 20 years and will make sure you are more than happy with your results.

Our spider vein team is extremely efficient and the procedure takes no longer than 30 minutes, depending on how extensive the case.
